It happens to almost everybody. At some point in your life, you realize that the position you are in is not exactly where you wanna be but you can’t seem to do anything about it either. Whether it’s because you seem to have lost interest in your job or you can’t seem to progress in your field or might be that the company has stopped investing in your field; you end in a dead-end job. When you realize this, it’s time to stop and ask yourself, am I where I want to be? Am I happy here? Do I have a future here?
Along with all these questions to ask yourself, we have some wonderful tips for you!
1. Get your CV ready
When people get jobs and get comfortable in them, they stop updating their resumes. So, make sure to update your resume with all the different skills that you have learned and all the courses that you have taken. Make sure to keep your CV current i.e. highlight the skills that are in demand. This will make you more attractive to potential employers.
2. New Skills
If you are getting passed over for a promotion, the reason might be that you do not have the proper skills. So, look at yourself and identify the job that you actually want. Identify the skills required and necessary for the job. Then, work towards acquiring those said skills.
3. Network
Networking has become extremely important in today’s day and age. Reach out to professional colleagues and have conversations with them. They most likely will be able to put you in touch with a new job that might be more fitting for you.
4. Balance
Often times, when you begin to feel stuck, you might feel like it’s because you are not working enough and thus not getting satisfaction at work. This might lead you to spend more and more time at work. It is the exact opposite of what you wanna do. Ensure that your life has proper balance. Go out with family and friends, go on trips and holidays. Remember, all work and no play make Jack a very dull boy.
These were just some tips to help you on your way out of a dead-end job or out of the rut that you might think you are in.
